Your first trek in Nepal carries extra unknowns — border formalities, logistics, unfamiliar trails. The Langtang Valley trek removes almost all of them. It's the great trekking region closest to Kathmandu, it needs no internal flights, and its nine-day itinerary is the gentlest introduction Nepal offers to genuinely big mountains.
Why is Langtang the best first trek in Nepal?
Three reasons. Logistics: you drive from Kathmandu to the trailhead at Syabrubesi — no weather-dependent mountain flights, so the plan holds at exactly nine days. Altitude: the valley walk climbs gently to Kyanjin Gompa at 12,697 ft over four days, with oximeter checks twice daily. Grading: it's a moderate trek, and the one big high point — the 16,352 ft (4,984 m) summit of Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri — is entirely optional. The valley alone is worth the trip.
What will you actually see on the trail?
You'll walk river-forest days first — oak and bamboo alive with langurs along the Langtang Khola — then emerge beneath Langtang Lirung's 7,227 m wall on the way to Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa, a monastery village ringed by glaciers with its own yak cheese factory. If you take the dawn push up Tserko Ri, the panorama of Dorje Lakpa, the Ganjala peaks and a sea of glaciers is the equal of viewpoints on treks twice the price.
Do Indians need a visa for a Nepal trek?
No — this is the easy part. Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal; a valid passport or government photo ID covers the border. Fly into Kathmandu from any metro, and the Langtang National Park permit and TIMS card are arranged by TrekNova and included; the formalities happen at your day-one briefing while you explore the old city.
How much does the Langtang trek package cost?
At ₹55,000 per person — against a ₹70,000 MRP — Langtang is the most affordable trek we run in Nepal, with Kathmandu hotel nights, trailhead transfers, teahouses, all meals on trek, permits, guides, porter support and a sleeping bag on loan all inside the price. Budget separately for your Kathmandu flights and travel insurance.
