When to do which trek?

✓ Best window: December to April brings reliable, deep snow at a summit height (12,500 ft) that stays safe for beginners — frozen Juda-Ka-Talab, snow-loaded pines and clear summit sunrises.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon makes the forest trail slippery and leech-prone with clouded-out views; May–June is snowless and hazy — the trek loses the very thing it's famous for.

✓ Best window: December to March is the point of this trek — frozen Bekaltal and Brahmatal lakes, a snow ridge-walk, and Trishul/Nanda Ghunti at their sharpest in winter air.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon hides the big-mountain views behind cloud and makes the forest sections slippery; summer months are pleasant but ordinary — the lakes and ridge lose their winter magic.

✓ Best window: December to April turns the meadows into a snowfield perfect for families; May–June brings back rolling green with wildflowers — both faces of the bugyal are beautiful.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon turns meadow paths to slush and covers Bandarpoonch in cloud; the thin meadow soil also erodes fastest in rain — we'd rather not add footfall then.

✓ Best window: September to December offers post-monsoon clarity for the trek's signature Nanda Devi views; March–April adds spring snow and rhododendron bloom on the Curzon Trail.

✗ Skip when: January–February deep snow can block the pass approach for days; July–August monsoon brings persistent rain and cloud that hide the very peaks you came for.

✓ Best window: April–June brings flowering meadows and snow-draped Swargarohini; September–November adds post-monsoon clarity and golden harvest colours in Osla's fields.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon makes the long river-valley trail landslide-prone; December–February deep snow and extreme cold often restrict access to the upper valley.

✓ Best window: May–June offers firm pre-monsoon snow bridges for the crossing; September–October gives dry, stable trails and the clearest views on the 16,207 ft pass day.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon swells the Ruinsara valley rivers and loosens rockfall zones; November to April the pass holds dangerous deep snow — a technical crossing becomes an expedition.

✓ Best window: October to April combines crystal Himalayan views from Chandrashila with an accessible winter snow experience — the roadhead at Chopta keeps it doable all winter.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon wraps Tungnath in mist with slippery stone steps and no views; May–June is comfortable but hazy — sunrise loses its 360° payoff.

✓ Best window: March to June (peaking April–May) is summit season — consolidated spring snow makes the long boulder fields safely climbable and the Nanda Devi wall views are at their best.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon soaks the steep approach; November to February the summit ridge holds too much soft snow for a safe push — the boulder maze underneath becomes treacherous.

✓ Best window: October to April serves crisp, clear skies for the 180° snow-peak panorama, with occasional snow near the summit in deep winter — perfect weekend conditions.

✗ Skip when: July–August monsoon means mud, leeches and zero views; May–June afternoons get hot and hazy on the lower trail, though early starts still work.

✓ Best window: Mid-June to September is when the pass is actually open — snow melts enough to cross, and the trail sits in a rain-shadow crossover that stays trekkable even in monsoon.

✗ Skip when: October to May the pass is buried under heavy snow and unsafe to cross; winter attempts risk avalanche-prone slopes on the Lahaul side.
