Everyone asks us for a Nepal trek that fits inside a normal Indian leave application. The Langtang Valley trek is that trek. Closest of all the great trekking regions to Kathmandu, it needs no internal flights, tops out at a proper 16,352 ft (4,984 m) viewpoint, and walks you beneath the hanging icefalls of Langtang Lirung — big Himalaya on a small footprint, in nine days door to door.
What is the Langtang trek itinerary?
A winding seven-hour drive from Kathmandu through Trisuli Bazaar drops you at Syabrubesi inside Langtang National Park. The first walking day follows the roaring Langtang Khola through dense oak and bamboo forest to Lama Hotel — langur monkeys overhead, and if you're lucky, the rust-red flash of a red panda. Above Lama Hotel the forest opens and Langtang Lirung's 7,227 m wall fills the head of the valley on the way to Langtang Village, rebuilt with quiet strength after the 2015 earthquake.
A short day of mani walls and yak pastures brings you to Kyanjin Gompa, a monastery village ringed by glaciers, complete with a famous yak cheese factory. Day six is the summit push: a dawn climb up Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri — take Tserko Ri for the full panorama — where Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, the Ganjala peaks and a sea of glaciers wheel around you at 16,352 ft. Two easy descent days return you to Syabrubesi and the drive home.
When is the best time for the Langtang Valley trek?
March to May and September to November. Spring fills the forest days with rhododendron and birdlife; autumn gives Kyanjin its glassiest glacier views. The valley's relatively low starting point makes shoulder-season weather kinder here than on the higher circuits.
How difficult is the Langtang trek?
Langtang is a moderate trek with one big optional day. The valley itinerary itself climbs gently — Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa at 12,697 ft over four walking days — and our leaders run oximeter checks twice daily. The Ri summit at 16,352 ft is the physical crux, a seven-hour dawn effort, but it's entirely optional: the valley alone is worth the trip. Fit first-timers with some hill-walking behind them manage this trek well.
What does the Langtang trek package cost?
At ₹55,000 per person, Langtang is the most affordable Nepal trek we run. The price includes two hotel nights in Kathmandu with breakfast, private transfers to and from Syabrubesi, teahouse stays on twin sharing, all meals on the trail, the Langtang National Park permit and TIMS card, an experienced trek leader with local guide and porter support, and a sleeping bag on loan. Your flight to Kathmandu and travel insurance (recommended) are the main extras.
Do you need a visa or internal flights from India?
Neither. Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal — a valid passport or government photo ID is all the border formality there is. Fly into Kathmandu from any Indian metro, and that's the last aircraft you'll need: unlike the Everest region, Langtang is reached entirely by road, which removes weather-delay risk and keeps the itinerary honest at exactly nine days.
Nine days, one valley
For glacier views per rupee and per day of leave, nothing in Nepal beats Langtang. The 2026 spring and autumn departures are open on the Langtang Valley trek page at TrekNova — pick a date and go meet the valley of glaciers.
