We don't recommend Surya Top in July. The trail is at its best in Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr — and there are better options this month (listed below). The trek runs 4 days from Barsu, Uttarkashi, reaching 12,300 ft at its highest point, and is graded Easy-Moderate (2/5). The fee is ₹7,999 + 5% GST with permits, meals, camping and certified trek leaders included.
Weather & trail conditions in July
Rain is a daily companion on most Himalayan trails in these months — expect slippery descents, leeches in the forest sections and occasional roadblocks on the drives. Only monsoon-suitable trails should be attempted. On Surya Top, expect daytime temperatures around 18°C on the trail and roughly 8°C at the highest camps after dark in July.
