If you want one trek that teaches you what the Himalaya feels like — real altitude, glacial moraine, big-wall amphitheatres — without demanding a week of your life or a mountaineer's fitness, the Beas Kund trek is our answer. In four days from Manali you walk to the small, brilliant-blue lake where the Beas river is born, with Hanuman Tibba, Shitidhar and Friendship Peak crowding the skyline around you.
What is the Beas Kund trek itinerary?
Day 1: drive 22 km past the zip-lines and paragliders of Solang to Dhundi, then an easy 3 km riverside walk to the meadow camp at Palchhani Thatch, 9,840 ft. Day 2: cross the Beas on a snow bridge and climb gently through shepherd pastures to Lohali at 11,155 ft, ringed by moraine walls and waterfalls.
Day 3 is the payoff — a 7 km round trip boulder-hopping up the moraine to Beas Kund itself at 12,772 ft, where sage Vyas is said to have bathed, then back to Lohali for the night. Day 4 is a downhill morning to Dhundi and the short drive back, with you in a Manali café by lunch.
Which is the best time for the Beas Kund trek?
The season runs long: May through October. May–June has snow bridges and full streams; July–August brings the wildflower meadows of Palchhani and Lohali to their loudest; September–October offers crystal air and the best peak views. Only deep winter closes the trail.
How difficult is the Beas Kund trek?
Easy-Moderate — a genuine first-timer's trek. Daily distances are 3–7 km, and the only tricky ground is the boulder field before the lake, which we take slowly. If you can walk 5 km comfortably at home, four weeks of brisk walking and a few stair sessions will have you ready.
What is the Beas Kund trek cost?
₹9,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals on the trek, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags and mats, a trek leader plus local guide, forest permits and camping charges, and transport between Manali and Dhundi both ways. Offloading and personal expenses are the only extras.
How do you reach Manali?
Overnight Volvos from Delhi (12–14 hours) or Chandigarh (8–9 hours) drop you in Manali by morning; Bhuntar airport is 50 km away if you prefer to fly. Day 1 starts mid-morning, so same-day bus arrivals work fine.
Do you need a permit for Beas Kund?
Kullu forest division permits for the Solang nallah are arranged by us and included — carry a government photo ID.
Weekend batches fill quickly in June and October. Dates and live availability are on the Beas Kund trek page; bring the friend who keeps saying they'll 'do a trek someday'.
