Beas Kund vs Beas Kund–Solang Valley is a choice we help groups make every week, because both of our 4-day itineraries end at the same place — the sacred glacial lake at 12,772 ft where the Beas is born, ringed by Hanuman Tibba, Shitidhar and Friendship Peak. The difference is entirely in how you spend your first day and your budget. Here's the honest comparison.
How do the itineraries differ?
The classic Beas Kund trek (₹9,999 + 5% GST) drives straight past Solang to Dhundi on Day 1 and camps at Palchhani Thatch, then Lohali — maximum trail time, two high meadow camps, and the lake visit from Lohali on Day 3. The Solang variant (₹8,999 + 5% GST) spends Day 1 camped on the Solang meadow at 8,530 ft, where zip-lining and paragliding are optional add-ons, then walks up via Dhundi to Bakarthach and visits the lake from there.
Which acclimatises better?
The Solang route, slightly — its low first night at 8,530 ft before sleeping at Bakarthach follows the acclimatise-low, sleep-high principle neatly. The classic route camps higher sooner, which fitter or previously-acclimatised trekkers handle fine. Both are Easy-Moderate and beginner-appropriate with four weeks of walking preparation.
Which should your group pick?
Pure trekkers who want meadow camps and quiet: the classic Beas Kund. Mixed groups where half the WhatsApp chat wants adventure sports and half wants a real trail: the Solang variant settles the argument for less money — just budget separately for the zip-line or paraglide, which are pay-what-you-choose with licensed local operators.
What's common to both?
All meals, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags and mats, trek leader plus local guide, Kullu forest permits and Manali transport are included on both trips, and both run the long May–October season. Whichever you choose, the moment the moraine opens onto that small, brilliant-blue lake is identical — and worth every step. Dates for both are live on their trek pages.
