The Bhrigu Lake trek pulls off something almost no other Himalayan trail manages: true high altitude — 14,100 ft — inside a four-day window, with alpine meadows from literally the first step. There is no long forest approach here; you start at Gulaba above Manali and walk straight into grasslands so vast that horses graze them all summer. At the top waits the oval lake where sage Bhrigu is said to meditate still.
What is the Bhrigu Lake trek route?
Day 1: a 20 km drive up the Rohtang highway to Gulaba, then a 3 km walk to camp at Jonker Thatch — grass, sky and cowbells all the way. Day 2 climbs rolling ridgelines where Gaddi shepherds summer their flocks to Rola Kholi at 12,500 ft, with the Beas valley spread out 6,000 feet below.
Day 3 is lake day: a steady 8 km round trip over grassy shoulders and late-season snowfields to Bhrigu Lake — emerald in July, half-frozen into September — ringed by the Pir Panjal, with Hanuman Tibba across the valley. Day 4 descends the meadows to Gulaba and has you back in Manali for a late lunch.
Which month is best for Bhrigu Lake?
June to September. June still carries snow patches on the upper slopes; July and August turn the meadows electric green and the lake emerald — this trail handles monsoon better than most in Kullu; September brings the clearest skies and a half-frozen, moodier lake.
How difficult is the Bhrigu Lake trek?
Easy-Moderate — but respect the altitude. The distances are short (3–8 km days), the gradients honest but manageable; the real challenge is sleeping at 12,500 ft and touching 14,100 ft by Day 3. Hydrate hard, walk slow, and give it four weeks of brisk-walking preparation. Micro-spikes for early-season snow are provided.
What is the Bhrigu Lake trek cost?
₹7,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals on the trek, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags and mats, trek leader plus local guide, micro-spikes when needed, forest permits and camping charges, and transport between Manali and Gulaba both ways. Offloading and tips are extra.
How do you reach Manali for the trek?
Overnight Volvos from Delhi (12–14 hours) and Chandigarh (8–9 hours) reach Manali by morning, in time for the Day 1 departure to Gulaba. Bhuntar airport, 50 km away, is the flying option.
Do you need a permit for Bhrigu Lake?
Kullu forest division (Gulaba beat) permits are arranged by us and included — carry a government photo ID.
