Churdhar Trek: Summiting the Bangle of Snow in 3 Days

The Churdhar trek takes you up the highest summit of the outer Himalaya in Himachal — 11,965 ft — and the view explains the mountain's poetic local name, Churi Chandni, the bangle of moonlit snow. From the Shirgul Maharaj temple crowning the peak, the Gangetic plains shimmer to one side while the snows of Srikhand and Kinnaur line the other. Three days, one summit, and monal pheasants in the deodars on the way up.

What is the Churdhar trek route?

Day 1: a 75 km morning drive from Solan through Sirmaur's hills to Nauradhar, then a steady 6 km climb into old-growth deodar forest to camp in the Jamnala clearing. Day 2 is summit day — a 10 km round trip through krummholz and boulder slopes to the Shirgul Maharaj shrine on the top, with time to sit on the summit rocks and trace the whole Himalayan crest. Day 3 is a springy forest descent to Nauradhar and the drive back to Solan.

Which is the best time for the Churdhar trek?

May–June and September to November. Early summer brings flowering meadows below the summit; autumn delivers the razor-sharp visibility this peak is famous for — November mornings can show you both the plains and fresh snow on the crest. The trail rests during monsoon and deep winter.

How difficult is the Churdhar trek?

Easy-Moderate. Summit day is an 8-hour effort with about 3,200 ft of gain, but the trail is well-trodden — this is a sacred peak with centuries of foot traffic. A first-timer with three to four weeks of brisk walking behind them will enjoy rather than endure it.

What is the Churdhar trek cost?

₹5,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals on the trek, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags and mats, a trek leader plus local guide, forest permits and camping charges, and a bonfire when weather permits. The shareable Solan–Nauradhar cab and personal expenses are extra.

How do you reach Solan?

Solan sits on the Kalka–Shimla highway: 6–7 hours by bus from Delhi, or take the train to Kalka and hop a cab or the toy train up. Reach Solan the previous evening or by very early morning — the Nauradhar drive leaves after breakfast.

Do you need a permit for Churdhar?

Yes — the peak sits inside the Churdhar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Sirmaur forest division permits are arranged by us and included. Carry a government photo ID.

It is the perfect long-weekend summit. Dates and availability are on the Churdhar trek page.
