Deo Tibba Base Camp Trek: Manali's Quiet High-Altitude Gem

The Deo Tibba base camp trek is the answer to a question we hear every season: where can I go near Manali that isn't crowded? While the town's famous trails fill up, this 7-day route out of Jagatsukh climbs quietly to 14,000 ft beneath the perfect snow dome of Deo Tibba (19,687 ft), past an ancient lake bed turned emerald meadow and a tiny glacial jewel called Chota Chandratal.

What is the Deo Tibba trek route?

Day 1 drives through Jagatsukh, the old capital of Kullu, to Khanol village, then climbs through walnut and deodar to camp at Chika, 10,335 ft. Day 2 is a steep pull past the Panduropa grazing grounds onto Seri — a dead-flat meadow that was once a lake, threaded with silver streams. Day 3 is a deliberate acclimatisation day at Seri with short ridge walks.

Day 4 climbs the moraine shelf to Tainta at 12,915 ft, perched below Deo Tibba's hanging glaciers — sunset turns the dome pink, then silver. Day 5 is the highlight: boulder fields to the startlingly blue Chota Chandratal and the base camp area at 14,000 ft, with ice cliffs and avalanche echoes for company, then back to Tainta. Days 6 and 7 descend to Chika and walk out to Khanol, with you back in Manali by lunch.

Which months are best for Deo Tibba?

June to September. June carries late snow on the upper moraine; July and August fill Seri with wildflowers — this valley handles monsoon better than most Kullu trails; September is the clearest month for photographing the dome.

How difficult is the Deo Tibba base camp trek?

Moderate-Difficult, and one prior trek is recommended for the altitude gain to 14,000 ft. Days are short — 4 to 8 km — but the terrain above Seri is moraine and boulder, and the built-in acclimatisation day exists for good reason. Six to eight weeks of training with stairs and loaded walks is right.

What is the Deo Tibba trek cost?

₹14,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals on the trek, alpine tents with -15°C sleeping bags and mats, trek leader plus local guides, micro-spikes and safety gear for the moraine sections, forest permits and twice-daily health checks. The shareable Manali–Khanol cab, offloading and insurance are extra.

How do you reach the trailhead?

Reach Manali by overnight Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh, or fly to Bhuntar. Khanol is a short drive through Jagatsukh, 12 km from Manali — we coordinate the shared cab for the group on Day 1 morning.

Do you need permits for Deo Tibba?

Kullu forest division (Jagatsukh range) permits are arranged by us and included.

If you want big-mountain scenery without a single crowded campsite, this is your trek. Dates are live on the Deo Tibba Base trek page.
