The Friendship Peak expedition is the bridge between trekking and mountaineering. Unlike a pass trek, this 7-day trip out of Manali ends on a true alpine summit at 17,353 ft — reached with ropes, crampons and ice axes across a glacier, with snow-craft training built into the itinerary. If you have ever wondered whether you could stand on a real Himalayan peak, this is the honest way to find out.
What is the Friendship Peak itinerary?
Day 1 is briefing and gear check in Manali — crampons fitted, harnesses adjusted, legs stretched in the old orchards. Day 2 drives to Dhundi and climbs to Bakarthach, the goatherd's meadow at 10,826 ft beneath Hanuman Tibba. Day 3 ascends the curving moraine ridge to Lady Leg Base Camp at 12,795 ft, with the summit pyramid in full view.
Day 4 is dedicated training: rope work, self-arrest drills, cramponing and glacier walking — climb high, sleep low. Day 5 is summit day, a 2 AM start under headlamps, roped across the glacier to the final steep snow arête; from the top, Deo Tibba, Indrasan, Hanuman Tibba and the entire Pir Panjal catch fire at dawn. Day 6 is a built-in weather reserve, and Day 7 walks out to Dhundi and back to Manali.
When is the best season to climb Friendship Peak?
May–June and September–October. Pre-monsoon offers firm snow and long summit windows; post-monsoon offers colder, clearer air and the sharpest views. Monsoon and deep winter are out.
How hard is Friendship Peak for a trekker?
It is graded Difficult, and one prior high-altitude trek is required — we verify before confirming your booking.
