Indrahar Pass vs Triund: Which Dharamshala Trek Fits You?

Indrahar Pass vs Triund is really a question about ambition, because the two treks share their first day exactly: the same 9 km climb from McLeodganj to the grassy ridge at 9,350 ft. Triund stops there and comes home; Indrahar keeps going — over the top of the Dhauladhar at 14,160 ft and down the far side into Chamba. Here is how to choose.

Indrahar Pass vs Triund: Which Dharamshala Trek Fits You?

How do the two treks compare on difficulty?

Triund is Easy-Moderate: 9 km up, 9 km down, no experience needed, manageable by anyone who can handle a few hours of steady climbing. Indrahar is Moderate-Difficult: five days, a night in the Lahesh cave, and a 10-hour pass day up rock gullies where you use your hands. Triund is a first trek; Indrahar is a second or third.

What about time and cost?

Triund needs one weekend and ₹4,499 + 5% GST per person, with camping gear, meals and permits included. Indrahar needs five days and ₹12,999 + 5% GST per person — and because it's a crossover, you finish in Chamba, travelling home via Pathankot rather than back through McLeodganj. Budget the extra day and the different exit.

Which has the better views?

Different, not better. Triund gives you the Dhauladhar wall rising 8,000 ft off the ridge and the Kangra valley lights below your tent — arguably the best effort-to-view ratio in Himachal. Indrahar gives you the top of that wall: Punjab's plains shimmering on one side, Mani Mahesh Kailash on the other, plus slate-roofed Gaddi villages like Kuarsi that day-trekkers never see.

So which one should you book?

Never trekked, short on leave, or introducing someone to the mountains? Triund, without hesitation. Done Triund and caught yourself staring at the wall behind the chai shops wondering what's over it? That feeling has a name, and it's Indrahar.

Both run spring and autumn batches — the Triund and Indrahar Pass trek pages have dates, and doing one this year and the other next is a very good plan.
