Kheerganga Trek: Route, Distance, Cost & the Hot Springs

Very few trails end the day's walk with a soak in a natural hot spring under the stars. The Kheerganga trek does — which is why this 2-day walk from the Parvati valley has become India's favourite starter trek. The meadow at 9,700 ft is where Kartikeya is said to have meditated; the steaming pool at its edge is where you will understand why people keep coming back to the mountains.

What is the Kheerganga trek route from Kasol?

Day 1: a 16 km drive from Kasol to the roadhead at Barshaini, then a 10 km walk up the valley through Nakthan village, past the Rudra-nag waterfall and across the thundering Parvati river. You reach the meadow by late afternoon — and then it's straight into the hot-spring pool, which stays open all night. Dinner, bonfire if the weather allows, and a sky full of stars.

Day 2 starts with a dawn dip, mist rising off the water, and a big mountain breakfast before the easy walk back down. You're in Kasol by mid-afternoon, in time for an evening bus home.

When is the best time for the Kheerganga trek?

March to June and September to November. Spring brings rhododendron blooms and snowmelt waterfalls; autumn brings clear skies and golden forests. July–August is monsoon in the Parvati valley — slippery and best avoided — and December to February can snow the trail over.

How difficult is the Kheerganga trek?

Easy-Moderate. The 10 km climb gains about 4,500 ft, a solid half-day of walking for a beginner, but the trail is well-defined the whole way, with dhabas en route for chai stops. No trek experience needed; basic fitness — the ability to walk a few brisk kilometres — is enough.

What is the Kheerganga trek cost?

₹4,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals from Day 1 lunch to Day 2 breakfast, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags, a trek leader plus local guide, forest permits and camping charges, and a bonfire when weather permits. The shareable cab between Kasol and Barshaini and personal expenses are separate.

How do you reach Kasol from Delhi?

Overnight buses from Delhi and Chandigarh run to Bhuntar, from where Kasol is a 90-minute local bus or cab ride up the Parvati valley; some Volvos run direct to Kasol in season. Reach by Day 1 morning — the group leaves for Barshaini before noon.

Do you need a permit for Kheerganga?

Kasol forest range day permits are arranged by us and included. Carry a government photo ID — and a towel for the springs; you will absolutely be getting in.

Weekend batches run all season and fill fast. Grab your dates on the Kheerganga trek page and let the Parvati valley do the rest.
