Pin Bhaba vs Pin Parvati: Which Spiti Crossover to Choose

Pin Bhaba vs Pin Parvati is the debate every ambitious trekker eventually has, because both treks end in the same magical place — Mudh village in Spiti's Pin valley — after crossing from a green valley into the high desert. One is an 8-day Difficult trek; the other is an 11-day expedition. Having run both for years, here is how we'd actually choose between them.

Pin Bhaba vs Pin Parvati: Which Spiti Crossover to Choose

How do the two passes compare?

Pin Bhaba crosses at 16,105 ft from Kinnaur's Bhaba valley; Pin Parvati crosses at 17,457 ft from the Parvati valley — 1,350 ft higher, and the difference is bigger than it sounds. Bhaba's pass day is steep snow managed with ice axes and micro-spikes, roughly 11 hours. Parvati's is a 12-hour glacier day with roped travel across crevassed snowfields. Bhaba is a hard trek; Parvati is a mountaineering-flavoured expedition.

Which has better scenery?

Bhaba arguably delivers the sharper contrast — Mulling and Kara are meadows that out-green Kashmir, and the flip into Spiti's ochre happens in one morning on the pass. Parvati offers depth over drama: eleven days of transformation through hot springs, the Pandu Pul boulder bridges, and the sacred Mantalai lake before the desert. If you want one perfect photograph, Bhaba. If you want a journey with chapters, Parvati.

What experience does each demand?

Both require prior high-altitude experience, verified before we confirm your booking. For Pin Bhaba, one strong 14,000 ft trek is the sensible minimum. For Pin Parvati, we want more: a completed Difficult-grade trek — Bhaba itself is the perfect qualifier. Plenty of our Parvati alumni did exactly that, one year apart.

What do they cost?

Pin Bhaba is ₹21,999 + 5% GST per person over 8 days; Pin Parvati is ₹25,999 + 5% GST over 11 days with the full glacier kit and high-altitude porters. Both include expedition camping gear, technical guide teams, permits (including Pin Valley National Park), oxygen backup and health checks.

The verdict

Choose Pin Bhaba for your first big crossover into Spiti — it is the most dramatic week we can responsibly recommend to a strong trekker. Choose Pin Parvati when you're ready to graduate from trekking toward expeditions. Either way, sea-buckthorn tea in Mudh tastes like victory; dates for both are live on their trek pages.
