The Prashar Lake trek delivers the most scenery per unit of effort of anything we run in Himachal. An 8 km walk from Baggi village near Mandi brings you to a blue lake at 8,960 ft with a floating island that drifts across it, a 13th-century three-tiered pagoda temple to sage Prashar on its bank, and a 180-degree sweep of the Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Kinnaur ranges beyond. Easy grade, enormous payoff.
What is the Prashar Lake trek route?
Day 1: a 26 km drive from Mandi into the Uhl valley to Baggi, then a steady climb through oak and rhododendron along a gurgling stream. The trail crests suddenly at the lake bowl by afternoon — blue water, floating island, ancient pagoda. Sunset here rearranges your priorities; camp is a few minutes from the temple.
Day 2 begins with dawn light on a wall of snow peaks, a temple darshan and parathas at the dhaba, before an easy descent to Baggi and the drive back to Mandi.
When is the best time for Prashar Lake?
October to June — an unusually generous window. October–November brings post-monsoon clarity, December to February turns this into a proper snow trek with a frozen lakeshore, and March to June offers meadow camping in shirtsleeve weather. Only the monsoon months are off.
How difficult is the Prashar Lake trek?
Easy — the gentlest grade in our Himachal catalogue. The 8 km trail gains height steadily but never brutally, and most first-timers finish in 4–5 hours. In winter, snow makes it more atmospheric rather than more dangerous; we adjust pace and gear accordingly. If you have never trekked before, start here.
What is the Prashar Lake trek cost?
₹2,999 + 5% GST per person — the most affordable trek we run. The package includes all meals from Day 1 lunch to Day 2 breakfast, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags, a trek leader plus local guide, forest permits and camping charges, and a bonfire when weather permits. The shareable Mandi–Baggi cab and personal expenses are extra.
How do you reach Mandi from Delhi?
Mandi sits right on the Delhi–Manali highway, so every Manali-bound Volvo passes through it — about 10–11 hours overnight from Delhi, 6 from Chandigarh. Get off at Mandi by early morning and the group leaves for Baggi after breakfast.
Do you need a permit for Prashar Lake?
Mandi forest division permits are arranged by us and included. Carry a government photo ID — and layers, because the lake bowl gets cold fast after sunset.
Batches run most of the year and it books out on long weekends. Dates are live on the Prashar Lake trek page.
