The Srikhand Mahadev trek has a reputation, and every metre of it is earned. The goal is a 75-ft rock shivling standing at 16,800 ft — reachable only on foot, with no ponies and no shortcuts, past a lake said to be born of Parvati's tears and a garden where blue poppies bloom for the gods. It is the toughest pilgrimage in Himachal, and for the right trekker, the most rewarding week of the year.
What is the Srikhand Mahadev trek route?
Day 1 drives 170 km from Shimla along the Sutlej and up the Kurpan valley to Jaon, the last village. Day 2 takes on the infamous Danda-Dhar — a near-vertical forest staircase gaining 4,500 ft without mercy — to Thachru. Day 3 crests Kali Ghati pass by the goddess's shrine and follows flowered valleys to the great camp at Bhim Dwari.
Day 4 is a deliberately short day to Parvati Bagh at 13,650 ft, where the rare neelkamal blooms among boulders — rest and hydration before the main event. Day 5 is summit day: a 2 AM start past the glassy Nain Sarovar lake, then an ocean of boulders to the trident-crowned shivling, and the long return to Bhim Dwari — around 12 hours. Day 6 retraces everything down to Jaon, and Day 7 drives back to Shimla.
When does the Srikhand yatra run?
July and August only — the official yatra season, when the boulder fields shed their hard snow and the bhandaras are up. Even then, weather turns fast above Parvati Bagh; our itinerary builds the summit day early enough to use the calmest morning hours.
How difficult is the Srikhand Mahadev trek?
This is one of the hardest treks we run — Difficult grade, with a 12-hour summit day at up to 16,800 ft and a Danda-Dhar climb that humbles fit trekkers on Day 2. A medical fitness certificate is mandatory, and our team guides you through it. Train for two to three months, and note that offloading is not available beyond Thachru — you carry what you bring.
What does the Srikhand Mahadev trek cost?
₹16,999 + 5% GST per person. The package includes all meals on the trek, expedition tents with -15°C sleeping bags and mats, a trek leader plus technical guide team, ropes and micro-spikes for snow patches, forest permits with yatra registration, oxygen backup and twice-daily health checks. The shareable Shimla–Jaon cab and insurance are extra.
How do you reach Jaon village?
Get to Shimla by overnight Volvo from Delhi or via Kalka, and stay the night — Day 1 is an 8-hour drive to Jaon and starts early. The same road brings you back on Day 7; book onward travel for the following morning.
Is registration required for Srikhand?
Yes — Srikhand Mahadev Yatra registration with the Kullu district administration at Nirmand, plus forest permits, all arranged by us and included, along with the medical certificate process.
