Weekend Treks Near Delhi: Why Prashar Lake Is the Smart Pick

Weekend treks near Delhi all promise the same thing — leave Friday night, stand somewhere beautiful Saturday, be at your desk Monday. Most compromise somewhere. Prashar Lake doesn't: Mandi sits right on the Delhi–Manali highway, the trek is a single day's climb, and the payoff is a blue lake with a floating island, a 13th-century pagoda temple and a 180-degree sweep of the Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Kinnaur snows.

Weekend Treks Near Delhi: Why Prashar Lake Is the Smart Pick

How does the weekend timeline work?

Board a Manali-bound Volvo from Delhi on Friday evening and step off at Mandi around dawn — 10 to 11 hours. Saturday: drive 26 km to Baggi village and climb 8 km through oak and rhododendron to the lake at 8,960 ft by afternoon, then sunset, dinner and a bonfire at camp. Sunday: dawn light on the snow wall, temple darshan, parathas at the dhaba, walk down, and catch an evening bus that has you in Delhi by Monday morning.

Is Prashar Lake beginner-friendly?

Completely — it is the only Easy-graded trek in our Himachal list. The 8 km trail climbs steadily but never brutally, and most first-timers top out in 4–5 hours. In winter (December–February) snow turns it into a magical white walk that still stays manageable; we adjust gear and pace for the season.

What does the trek cost?

₹2,999 + 5% GST per person — the most affordable trek we run. Meals from Day 1 lunch to Day 2 breakfast, tents, sleeping bags, trek leader, local guide, permits and the bonfire are all included; the Mandi–Baggi shareable cab and your Delhi buses are extra. All in, the weekend usually lands under ₹6,000.

When can you go?

October to June — a nine-month window that covers autumn clarity, proper snow-trek winters and green spring camping. Only the monsoon is off. That flexibility is exactly what a weekend plan needs: pick a date on the Prashar Lake trek page, rally two friends, and be back before anyone notices you left.
