Bali Pass Trek in March

Weather, temperatures, packing and honest advice — from the team that runs this trail.

The quick answer

We don't recommend Bali Pass in March. The trail is at its best in May, Jun, Sep, Oct — and there are better options this month (listed below). The trek runs 8 days from Sankri, Uttarkashi, reaching 16,207 ft at its highest point, and is graded Difficult (5/5). The fee is ₹20,000 + 5% GST with permits, meals, camping and certified trek leaders included.

Why not this month: July–August monsoon swells the Ruinsara valley rivers and loosens rockfall zones; November to April the pass holds dangerous deep snow — a technical crossing becomes an expedition.

Weather & trail conditions in March

The snowline retreats through these weeks, so you often get the best of both worlds — snow patches up high and rhododendron blooms in the forest sections. Trails are firm and days are comfortably cool. On Bali Pass, expect daytime temperatures around 9°C on the trail and roughly -9°C at the highest camps after dark in March.
