Dayara Bugyal Trek in August

Weather, temperatures, packing and honest advice — from the team that runs this trail.

The quick answer

We don't recommend Dayara Bugyal in August. The trail is at its best in Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Jun — and there are better options this month (listed below). The trek runs 4 days from Raithal, Uttarkashi, reaching 12,100 ft at its highest point, and is graded Easy (1/5). The fee is ₹5,500 + 5% GST with permits, meals, camping and certified trek leaders included.

Why not this month: July–August monsoon turns meadow paths to slush and covers Bandarpoonch in cloud; the thin meadow soil also erodes fastest in rain — we'd rather not add footfall then.

Weather & trail conditions in August

Rain is a daily companion on most Himalayan trails in these months — expect slippery descents, leeches in the forest sections and occasional roadblocks on the drives. Only monsoon-suitable trails should be attempted. On Dayara Bugyal, expect daytime temperatures around 18°C on the trail and roughly 8°C at the highest camps after dark in August.
