Benog Tibba Trek: Mussoorie's Quiet Summit — A Weekend Guide

The Benog Tibba trek is what we suggest when someone wants to try Himalayan camping without committing to a 'real' expedition. An hour from the bustle of Mussoorie's Mall Road, the tarmac ends at Cloud's End and a quiet ridge trail climbs through cheer pines of the old Benog wildlife sanctuary to a 7,500 ft summit crowned by the tiny Jwala Devi shrine — with Bandarpoonch floating above the Yamuna valley haze at sunrise.

Benog Tibba Trek: Mussoorie's Quiet Summit — A Weekend Guide

What is the Benog Tibba trek plan?

Day 1 drives 38 km from Dehradun to Mussoorie's western edge at Cloud's End, then follows an easy 5 km ridge climb to camp below the Jwala Devi temple at 7,380 ft — Doon valley lights on one side, dark forest on the other. Day 2 catches sunrise at the summit shrine at 7,500 ft, ambles down through the sanctuary's birdsong, and drives home by afternoon.

When can you do this trek?

September through April — the longest season in our catalogue. Winter brings occasional snow and crystal views of Bandarpoonch; spring fills the sanctuary with birdsong. Only the monsoon months are off the table.

How easy is Benog Tibba, really?

Rated Easy — genuinely. Total walking is about 10 km across two days on well-graded trails. If this is your first night ever in a tent, you have picked the right hill.

What does the Benog Tibba trek cost?

₹4,499 + 5% GST per person — our most affordable trek. Included: all meals from Day 1 lunch to Day 2 lunch, alpine tents on twin sharing with sleeping bags, trek leader and local guide, a bonfire when weather permits, and forest permits. The Dehradun-Mussoorie shareable cab is extra.

How do you get there?

Dehradun is under an hour from the meeting point — overnight trains from Delhi make this doable without a single day of leave beyond the weekend. Jolly Grant airport works for flyers.

Permits

Benog Wildlife Sanctuary entry permits are arranged by us and included. Carry a government photo ID — and binoculars, because this is Mussoorie's best birding hill.
