Best Time for the Benog Tibba Trek: Eight Months, Ranked

The best time for the Benog Tibba trek is a luxurious question, because Mussoorie's quiet summit runs the longest season in our catalogue — September through April, eight months of viable weekends. But the little hill above Cloud's End does change through those months: haze comes and goes, snow occasionally visits, and the birding swings from good to world-class. Here is the season, ranked honestly.

Best Time for the Benog Tibba Trek: Eight Months, Ranked

Benog Tibba in October and November: the view months

Our top pick. Post-monsoon air is at its clearest, and the sunrise from the Jwala Devi shrine — Bandarpoonch floating above the Yamuna valley haze — is at its most reliable. Days of 15-20 degrees C, camp nights of 5-10 degrees C: textbook camping weather for first-timers.

Benog Tibba in December to February: the crisp months

Winter turns the cheer pines frosty, occasionally snowy, and keeps the summit horizon crystal for days at a stretch. Nights drop to 0 to -3 degrees C — the provided sleeping bags handle it — and Mussoorie's off-season quiet spills onto the trail. Best month for a moody, mist-and-pine photo album: January.

Benog Tibba in March and April: the birdsong months

Spring wakes the old Benog wildlife sanctuary — this is Mussoorie's best birding hill, and March-April mornings prove it. Warmer camps (nights of 5-8 degrees C), rhododendron colour on the ridges, and slightly hazier long views as the season closes in April.

What about September — and the monsoon?

September opens the season as the rains retreat: intensely green, occasionally showery in the first half, clearing beautifully by month's end. May to August we stand down — summer haze kills the views, then the monsoon makes the ridge trail slick and the leeches ambitious.

An easy call, whenever you come

Clear views: October-November. Frost and quiet: January. Birds and blooms: March. The weekend stays ₹4,499 + 5% GST in every month, permits and camping included — dates across the whole season are on our Benog Tibba page.
