The best time to visit Dayara Bugyal depends entirely on which meadow you want to meet — because these rolling bugyals above Raithal change costume more completely than any trail we run. Snowfield, spring lawn, monsoon garden: same 12,100 ft top, different worlds. Here is the month-by-month weather picture, including the months people search for that we do not run, and why.
Dayara Bugyal in August: the monsoon green
August is when the bugyal is at its lushest — but it is also peak monsoon: daily rain, slippery forest trails and clouds sitting on the meadows for hours. Daytime temperatures are a mild 15-20 degrees C. We do not run batches in August; if monsoon-season beauty is what you want, our Valley of Flowers trek is built for exactly that.

The rain stops, the skies rinse clean and the meadows glow — days of 12-16 degrees C, crisp nights. Lovely months, and honest disclosure: our Dayara departures run December to June, so autumn here is one we admire from the neighbouring trails. If you have September-October leave, our Har Ki Dun and Phulara Ridge treks from the same Dehradun gateway are in peak season.
Dayara Bugyal in winter (December to March): snow season
This is why our season opens in December. The whole meadow becomes an unbroken snowfield — arguably the best beginner snow trek terrain in Uttarakhand — with Bandarpoonch and Black Peak sharp on the skyline. Expect days around 5-10 degrees C and nights of -5 to -10 degrees C at the upper camps; our -15 degree C sleeping bags are standard issue. January-February have the deepest snow.
Dayara Bugyal in April, May and June
Spring and early summer turn the snowfields into green, flower-flecked pasture, with days of 12-18 degrees C and gentle nights around 0-5 degrees C. This is the window we recommend to families — children aged 8 and up are welcome on this trail — and the walking is at its easiest.
