Har Ki Dun in September, October and November: Best Time to Trek

Har Ki Dun in September is a different valley from Har Ki Dun in November — and both are different again from the spring version. The Valley of Gods runs two seasons, April to June and September to November, and because the trail lives beside the Supin river through working villages, the months change not just the weather but the whole scene: harvests, herds, snowline. Here is the month-by-month picture.

Har Ki Dun in September, October and November: Best Time to Trek

Har Ki Dun in September

The monsoon retreats and the valley is at its most alive — amaranth fields around Gangaad and Osla glowing crimson, rivers full, meadows green to the walls. Days run 15-20 degrees C, nights 5-8 degrees C at the upper camps. For photographers, early autumn is the trek's finest hour.

Har Ki Dun in October

The clarity month. Swargarohini stands razor-sharp above the valley, the harvest is in, and walking weather is perfect — 12-16 degrees C by day, 0-4 degrees C at night around Boslo (the camp below Har Ki Dun at 11,675 ft). Our most-booked autumn window; reserve early.

Har Ki Dun in November

Cold, quiet and golden. Days of 8-13 degrees C, nights of -4 to 0 degrees C, first snow dustings on the high ridges, and campsites you may have to yourselves. The last batches of the year run this month before winter closes the valley.

Har Ki Dun in April, May and June

The spring season: snowmelt-fat rivers, wildflowers spreading up the meadows, and Swargarohini still heavily snow-loaded — arguably its most dramatic look. Days of 15-22 degrees C, nights of 2-8 degrees C. Rivers run high with May-June snowmelt, so gaiters earn their place. December to March the trail is snowbound, and July-August is monsoon; we run neither.
