Kuari Pass in September is where this trail's season begins, and from there every month rewrites the trek: the route runs September to December and again March to April, and each window produces almost a different trip. Same 12,516 ft pass, same Nanda Devi reveal — but the ground underfoot, the temperatures and the photographs change completely. Here is the month-by-month truth from our batch records.
Kuari Pass in September
The monsoon rinses the sky and the season opens with the greenest version of the Curzon Trail — meadows fat from the rains, waterfalls still full, Dronagiri emerging from cloud. Expect days of 13-18 degrees C and camp nights of 4-8 degrees C. Late September is safer than early for settled weather.
Kuari Pass in October
The clarity month, and our most-booked window here for good reason: Nanda Devi, Kamet and Hathi-Ghoda at their absolute sharpest, gold light on Gorson Bugyal, and perfect walking temperatures — 10-15 degrees C by day, 0-5 degrees C at night. Book early; October sells out.
Kuari Pass in November
Frost-crisp mornings, thinning crowds, and the first dustings of snow on the pass. Days run 8-12 degrees C, nights dip to -4 to 2 degrees C at Khullara (11,010 ft). A superb month for trekkers who want autumn views with winter's quiet.
Kuari Pass in December
The secret month. The upper camps sit in snow, we issue micro-spikes, and campsites are near-empty. Days of 5-10 degrees C, nights of -6 to -10 degrees C — cold, but our -15 degree C-rated gear handles it. Winter drama on the Curzon Trail without a Difficult grade.
Kuari Pass in March and April
The spring snow-walk season. The pass day crosses consolidated snowfields, rhododendrons bloom below Gulling, and the light turns golden over Gorson. Days of 10-15 degrees C, high-camp nights of -2 to -6 degrees C. Slightly harder work than autumn — snow always is — and correspondingly more spectacular. January-February (pass snowed shut) and the June-August monsoon are the months we sit out.
