Phulara Ridge Trek Guide: A Full Day of Walking in the Sky

Most treks give you a summit moment that lasts twenty minutes. The Phulara Ridge trek gives you a summit that lasts all day. This 6-day route out of Sankri climbs to a ridgeline at 12,127 ft and then simply stays there — hours of walking in the sky with valleys plunging on both sides and Kedarkantha, Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch strung along the horizon. And because its neighbours are famous, Phulara stays wonderfully quiet.

Phulara Ridge Trek Guide: A Full Day of Walking in the Sky

What is the Phulara Ridge trek route?

Day 1 is the 185 km Tons valley drive from Dehradun to Sankri (6,400 ft). Day 2 climbs 5 km through old-growth oak, walnut and rhododendron to the forest camp at Sikolta (9,400 ft). Day 3 rises to Bhoj Gadi at 11,200 ft, camped just under the ridgeline as sunset turns the Har-ki-Dun horizon pink.

Day 4 is the day you came for: 8 km along the Phulara Ridge at 12,127 ft, then down to camp at Pali Ghat. Day 5 descends through the wildflower meadows of Pushtara — sheep, shepherds, and views — to Taluka and drives to Sankri. Day 6 returns to Dehradun.

When is the best time for Phulara Ridge?

April to June and September to November. Spring loads the lower forests with rhododendron bloom and the Pushtara meadows with wildflowers; autumn strings sharper peaks along the skyline for the ridge day.

How difficult is the trek?

Rated Moderate. The ridge day is 7 hours with continuous ups and downs at altitude, so train for sustained effort rather than a single big climb. It is an ideal second or third trek — and a smarter choice than repeating Kedarkantha.

What does the Phulara Ridge trek cost?

₹11,999 + 5% GST per person: all meals on trek, alpine tents with sleeping bags and mats, trek leader with local guides, forest permits and camping charges, and twice-daily health checks. The Dehradun-Sankri shareable cab and offloading are extra.

How to reach Sankri?

Train or flight to Dehradun (Jolly Grant is the nearest airport), then the 8-hour shared cab through Mussoorie, Purola and Mori — the same lovely approach used by all the Sankri treks.
