Pangarchulla Peak Trek in August

Weather, temperatures, packing and honest advice — from the team that runs this trail.

The quick answer

We don't recommend Pangarchulla Peak in August. The trail is at its best in Mar, Apr, May, Jun — and there are better options this month (listed below). The trek runs 6 days from Joshimath, Chamoli, reaching 15,069 ft at its highest point, and is graded Moderate-Difficult (4/5). The fee is ₹9,500 + 5% GST with permits, meals, camping and certified trek leaders included.

Why not this month: July–August monsoon soaks the steep approach; November to February the summit ridge holds too much soft snow for a safe push — the boulder maze underneath becomes treacherous.

Weather & trail conditions in August

Rain is a daily companion on most Himalayan trails in these months — expect slippery descents, leeches in the forest sections and occasional roadblocks on the drives. Only monsoon-suitable trails should be attempted. On Pangarchulla Peak, expect daytime temperatures around 15°C on the trail and roughly 3°C at the highest camps after dark in August.
