We don't recommend Hilley–Barsey in December. The trail is at its best in Mar, Apr, May — and there are better options this month (listed below). The trek runs 3 days from Hilley, West Sikkim, reaching 10,000 ft at its highest point, and is graded Easy-Moderate (2/5). The fee is ₹7,999 + 5% GST with permits, meals, camping and certified trek leaders included.

Weather & trail conditions in December

Expect snow on the upper sections of the trail and frozen water sources near camps. Micro-spikes and gaiters (provided on our snow treks) become essential above the snowline, and daylight hours are short — days start early and end early. On Hilley–Barsey, expect daytime temperatures around 11°C on the trail and roughly -3°C at the highest camps after dark in December.
